Carpet Tile Installation in South Houston

Carpet tile gives you a soft floor you can repair one square at a time. Before we suggest a product, we check your floor for moisture and flatness, then tell you plainly what we found and whether carpet tile is the right fit for the room.

Soft underfoot, simple to fix

Carpet tile is carpet made in squares or planks with a firm backing. The pieces are laid one by one, usually with a releasable adhesive, so a stained or worn tile can be lifted and replaced without touching the rest of the room. That makes it a good match for playrooms, home offices, game rooms and garage conversions, where spills and rolling chairs are part of daily life.

It is not the right answer everywhere. Carpet tile does poorly on a damp slab, and in the humid Houston area many slab-on-grade homes push more moisture through the concrete than people expect. So our visits start with the floor itself: a moisture reading, a check for low spots and cracks, and a note of any old glue or tack strip. You hear what we found before you hear a recommendation.

We have been in business for more than 25 years, and much of what that time has taught us about this product comes down to the floor beneath it. If carpet tile is not a good fit for your room, we will say so and talk through other options, such as luxury vinyl tile or a standard carpet installation.

What our carpet tile work includes

Slab and subfloor check
We take a moisture reading, run a straightedge across the floor and look for cracks or hollow spots. You get the findings in plain language, with photos of anything that needs attention.
Removing the old floor
We pull up old carpet, pad and tack strip, scrape off leftover adhesive and haul the debris away. The new tiles need clean concrete or wood to bond to.
Patching and leveling
Low spots get filled and high ridges get ground down. Carpet tile shows every dip once people start walking on it, so this step matters more than it looks.
Layout and installation
We find the center of the room, snap working lines and lay tiles in the pattern you choose, such as monolithic, quarter-turn or ashlar. Edge cuts are planned so you don't end up with thin slivers at a doorway.
Transitions to other floors
Where carpet tile meets tile, vinyl or hardwood, we fit the right transition strip so toes and chair wheels don't catch.
Spare tiles left with you
We set aside extra tiles from the same production lot, so a replacement matches in color years from now.

Signs carpet tile could suit your room

  • One spot keeps getting stained

If the same traffic lane or play corner is always the problem, squares let you replace just that patch instead of the whole carpet.

  • Desk chairs crushing the carpet

Home offices wear out wall-to-wall carpet quickly. A firm-backed tile holds up better under casters.

  • A room that keeps changing jobs

Garage conversions, game rooms and kids' rooms get used differently over the years. Carpet tile can be lifted and reworked with far less fuss than broadloom.

  • Old tiles curling at the corners

Existing carpet tile that lifts at the edges usually points to failed adhesive or moisture coming up through the slab. We find out which before replacing anything.

  • A musty smell near the floor

An odor at floor level can mean moisture under the current flooring. That deserves a look before anything new goes down.

How a carpet tile job runs

  1. 1

    Visit and findings

We measure the room, check the slab or subfloor and show you what we found. Then we talk through tile options that suit how you use the space.

  2. 2

    Written quote

Your quote lists prep, materials and installation as separate lines, so you can see where the cost comes from. We answer your questions by phone before anything is ordered.

  3. 3

    Getting the floor ready

Our crew carries your furniture to another spot, pulls up the existing flooring and fills or levels any rough areas in the concrete. Dust and scraps stay inside the room we are working on.

  4. 4

    Installation

Tiles go down from the center line out, and we check the direction arrows on each back so the pattern reads the way you picked. Edges are cut tight to the walls and trim.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and cleanup

We vacuum, put the furniture back and walk the room with you. Your spare tiles get labeled and left in a closet or garage.

What affects the price of carpet tile

The price depends more on the room and the floor under it than on the tile alone. After the inspection we explain each line of your quote, and we tell you up front if prep work is needed so nothing shows up later as a surprise.

How big the room is
A larger floor simply takes more tile and more hours. Every closet, angled corner or extra doorway calls for added cutting, which raises the labor.
Tile product and backing
Hard-backed commercial-style tiles, cushion-backed tiles for softer rooms and patterned designs all sit at different price points.
Condition of the slab
A dry, flat slab is quick to prepare. Moisture problems, cracks or heavy old adhesive add prep steps, and we show you the reason before adding any of them.
Removal and furniture
Tearing out and disposing of old carpet and pad, plus moving heavy furniture, all count toward labor.
Layout pattern
A monolithic layout wastes little tile. Ashlar, borders and mixed colors take more planning and more cutting.

Carpet tile questions we hear

Something not covered here? (346) 597-5531

Can carpet tile go right over my concrete slab?

Usually yes, as long as the slab is dry and reasonably flat. We take a moisture reading first, because adhesive can let go on concrete that stays damp. If the reading is high, we explain your options, which may include a moisture barrier or a different floor.

How do I replace a stained tile later?

Lift the damaged tile, set one of your spares in its place and press it down. Because we use a releasable adhesive, the tiles around it stay put. If you would rather we handle it, give us a call.

Is carpet tile soft enough for a bedroom?

Standard carpet tile is firmer than plush wall-to-wall carpet. Cushion-backed tiles feel noticeably softer. If comfort is the top priority, a regular carpet installation may suit a bedroom better, and we will tell you that honestly.

Do I need to move my furniture before you come?

No, we move standard furniture as part of the job. We do ask you to clear small items, electronics and anything fragile before we arrive.

What happens if a tile gets soaked?

Everyday spills can be blotted like any carpet. If a few tiles get soaked, they can be lifted so the floor underneath dries, then put back or swapped for spares. That is one reason people pick carpet tile for rooms near an outside door.
