Carpet Installation in South Houston
Soft, quiet carpet in your home, laid over a floor we have actually checked. We look at the slab or subfloor, the old pad and the tack strip first, tell you plainly what we found, and then install carpet that stays flat and tight.
New carpet that stays smooth for years
Carpet is still the softest, quietest floor you can put in a bedroom or family room. It is also the floor most likely to look tired early when the work underneath is rushed. Ripples, seams that show and a new squeak almost always trace back to the pad, the tack strip or the subfloor, not the carpet itself.
That is why our carpet installation starts with an inspection. We pull back a corner, check the slab or wood subfloor, look at the old pad and tack strip, and explain what we see before we recommend anything. Sometimes the existing tack strip is sound and can stay. Sometimes a slab needs a moisture check first, which matters in a humid Gulf Coast house. You hear the answer either way.
We have been in business 25+ years, and most of what we have learned about carpet comes down to that prep. If carpet is not a good fit for a room, like a laundry room or a bath, we will tell you and talk through luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring instead.

What your carpet installation includes
- 01
Inspection and measuring
We measure every room, closet and doorway and check the subfloor and existing pad. You get a plain explanation of what we found and a written estimate that lists carpet, pad and labor separately.
- 02
Furniture moving and old carpet removal
We move standard furniture out of the way and set it back when we finish. Old carpet and pad are rolled up and hauled off, and staples are pulled from wood subfloors so nothing presses through the new pad.
- 03
Tack strip and subfloor prep
Loose or rusted tack strip is replaced. We scrape high spots, fill low ones and fasten squeaky subfloor panels before any pad goes down.
- 04
A pad matched to the carpet
The pad decides how the carpet feels underfoot and how long it holds its shape. We match density and thickness to your carpet and the room instead of defaulting to the thickest option.
- 05
Power stretching and careful seams
Every room is power stretched, not just knee-kicked, which keeps ripples from showing up a year later. We plan seams away from doorways and main walking paths where the room allows and seal the edges so they do not fray.
- 06
Transitions and cleanup
Where carpet meets tile, vinyl or wood, we finish the edge with the right transition strip. Then we vacuum the new carpet and leave the room ready to use.

Ripples that keep coming back
If carpet has been restretched and the waves return, the backing or pad has usually given out. Another stretch will not hold for long.
Matted traffic lanes
Hallways and the path in front of the couch flatten first. When the fibers stay crushed after vacuuming, they are not going to spring back.
A pad that has broken down
Walk the room and feel for thin, hard spots. Old pad can crumble into dust under the carpet, and the floor starts to feel like the slab underneath.
Odors or stains that will not lift
Pet accidents and past leaks soak through to the pad and sometimes the slab. Surface cleaning cannot reach them, so we check the slab for staining and moisture when the old carpet comes up.
Seams and edges coming apart
Seams that split open or edges fraying at doorways tend to spread. Replacing the carpet lets us fix the layout and transitions at the same time.
How a carpet job runs
- 1
In-home inspection
We visit, measure and check what is under your current flooring. You see what we see, and we explain it in plain terms.
- 2
Written estimate and carpet choice
We walk you through carpet and pad options for each room and how they suit the way you use it. The estimate shows each line so nothing is a surprise later, and we tell you about how long the work should take.
- 3
Removal and prep
On install day, we move furniture, pull the old carpet and pad, and fix the tack strip and subfloor. It helps if you clear small items, breakables and closet floors beforehand.
- 4
Install, stretch and finish
We lay the pad, seam and power stretch the carpet, trim the edges and set the transitions. Before we leave, we walk the rooms with you and put the furniture back.
What moves the price of carpet installation
Every carpet estimate comes down to a few things we can measure and see. We would rather explain them up front than add charges after the old carpet is up. Here is what changes the number.
- Square footage and room shape
- Carpet comes in wide rolls, so odd-shaped rooms, closets and hallways can create more trim waste than a simple rectangle. We plan the layout to keep waste and seams down.
- Carpet and pad selection
- Fiber type, style and density all affect cost, and so does the pad you pair with it.
- Condition of the subfloor
- A clean, dry slab needs little work. Moisture issues, uneven spots, squeaky panels or a lot of rusted tack strip add prep time.
- Stairs and extra details
- Stairs take far more time per foot than open rooms. If you want stairs done in a different material, our Stair Flooring page covers those options.
- Removal and furniture
- Pulling up old carpet, glued-down pad or another floor covering adds labor, as do heavy or unusual pieces of furniture.
Carpet installation questions
How soon can we use the room after the carpet goes in?
Right away. You can walk on it as soon as we finish, and the furniture goes back the same visit. New carpet can have a smell for a few days, so opening windows or running fans helps it fade faster.
Can you install carpet over a concrete slab?
Yes, and many homes in the area are on slabs. We check the slab for moisture and cracks before laying pad, because a damp slab can lead to odor and mildew under new carpet. If we find a problem, we show you and explain what it takes to fix it first.
Will I see seams?
Most rooms wider than a single roll need a seam. We place seams away from doorways, windows and heavy walking paths when the room allows, and a well-made seam is hard to spot once the pile settles.
Do I need to be home on install day?
Someone should be there at the start to confirm rooms and answer questions, and again at the end for the walkthrough. In between, you are welcome to go about your day while we work.
Is carpet tile a better choice than regular carpet for some rooms?
It can be. Broadloom carpet goes down as one continuous piece over a cushioned pad, so it gives a softer step and a cleaner look across a bedroom or living room. Carpet tile is laid in squares, and if one gets a stain you can lift it out and drop in a spare, which makes it handy for a playroom or home office. Our Carpet Tile page goes into more detail, and we are glad to compare the two while we are at your home for the inspection.
